JOB TITLE: Assistant Food Pantry Manager

ACCOUNTABILITY: Food Program Manager

 

JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Food Pantry Manager helps to oversee the operations of the Food Pantry, including but not limited to supervision and coordination of Food Pantry volunteers, coordination of food inventory and restocking of food pantry items, coordination of food distribution, keeping accurate records and daily reporting as required.

 

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE CENTER (CAC):
CAC is the primary human services organization for Sandy Springs and Dunwoody neighbors that are facing financial hardships or unexpected emergencies. Founded in 1987, CAC prevents homelessness and alleviates hunger by providing basic needs assistance while continuously engaging clients to work towards greater self-sufficiency. CAC employs a team of ~20 full-time employees to manage efforts, and coordinates the efforts of over 400 community volunteers to fulfill its mission. With four operating sites, including satellite locations in Dunwoody and South Sandy Springs, CAC hopes to continue to expand its services to better serve the 20,000 individuals living below the poverty line in Dunwoody and Sandy Springs.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

 

Strategic Planning

  1. Work continuously with Food Program Manager to improve CAC food service to meet the needs of those experiencing food insecurity
  2. Help Food Program Manager identify and address issues that challenge and support the Food Program
  3. Participate in discussion of policy positions concerning the Food Pantry

 

Food Pantry Operations

  1. Assure stability by promoting a working environment that is rewarding to staff and volunteers
  2. Help plan and manage food pantry inventory and maintain it in compliance with safe food guidelines
  3. Responsible for monitoring the quality and expiration date of food inventory
  4. Ensure inventory turns over on a FIFO basis, reducing food waste
  5. Coordinate daily organization of donated food items and incorporates into stock as scheduled
  6. Help to manage food cost efficiency, identify ways to increase efficiency, and fully utilize the food items ordered or donated
  7. Help coordinate food donation pickups and deliveries
  8. Help plan and coordinate community food drives
  9. Coordinate food delivery and distribution programs (including daily pantry distribution, weekly satellite pantries and seasonal programs)
  10. May represent CAC at management’s request
  11. Responsible for maintenance of all temperature logs
  12. Responsible for all food pantry equipment maintenance
  13. Work with facility maintenance staff to keep the food pantry areas clean and organized, including waiting room, corridors, market, bathrooms, and processing area
  14. Drive truck, van and forklift as needed
  15. Other duties as assigned by Food Program Manager or Programs Director, including but not limited to supporting CAC special programs and special events.

 

Human Resource Development

  1. Help train, place, coordinate and supervise pantry volunteers, interns, and work study students
  2. Help identify, cultivate, and recruit food pantry volunteers and leadership

 

Reporting & Communications

  1. Responsible for capturing and recording food service provided to clients
  2. Responsible for capturing and recording food inventory
  3. Participates in staff meetings

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, with prior experience in human services
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Experience and competence working in diverse ethnic communities and with groups of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Inventory and warehouse experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and database applications
  • Proven ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Demonstrated success managing individuals and teams
  • A valid driver’s license and a safe driving record

 

Job Type:
Full-time, hourly. The working conditions for this position take place in both indoor and outdoor environments. Duties include driving and offloading trucks, working with refrigerators and freezers, lifting and moving heavy boxes, and using the manual pallet jack.
