JF&CS is now seeking a Part-time Accounting Assistant 21 hours per week.
PURPOSE: Responsible for providing additional support to the Controller and other members of the Accounting team by performing reconciliations, keeping subsidiary ledgers updated, recording certain journal entries, responding to and resolving internal and external inquiries, and other various tasks as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and update the chart of accounts
- Support the Controller and CFO in researching any unusual variances from Budget in monthly financial reviews
- Assist in monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
- Respond to internal and vendor inquiries regarding status of payments made
- Reconcile various funding sources for the Holocaust program between Salesforce and the general ledger
- Assist in monitoring daily cash flow
- Assist in monitoring and updating a rolling 6-month cash flow projection
- Provide financial analysis as needed
- Assist with responding to and preparing schedules for external auditors
- Maintain fixed asset records and track depreciation expense
- Assist in preparing quarterly financial information for the Foundation’s endowments
- Assist in reconciling the bank statements monthly and resolve any discrepancies
- Support the CFO and Controller during the budget preparation process
- Prepare necessary financial reports for funders
- Handles and completes special projects as they arise
- Other duties as needed

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to apply concepts of accounting.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE: Must have knowledge of general accounting principles and practices.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be computer literate. Must be proficient with software packages such as MS Word, Windows, and MS Outlook. Must have superior spreadsheet skills preferably using Microsoft Excel and must be able to work comfortably with complex formulas. Must be detail oriented. Must be able to learn new software packages including use of General Ledger software. Experience with Blackbaud and Salesforce preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience in a similar position. Non-profit experience is a plus.
