Romeos and Juliets help seniors fight loneliness
Calling themselves Romeos and Juliets, two all-male and all-female groups of senior citizens gather informally for meals weekly at Park Springs, a senior living community in Stone Mountain.
The goal of the gatherings is to combat loneliness for those living in the sprawling community that’s a mix of villas, cottages, and houses with readily available assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care and respite care services.
JULIET stands for Just Us Ladies Indulging in Enjoyment Together, and ROMEO stands for Retired Older Men Eating Out. The Park Springs groups are not formally affiliated with the national organizations although they operate in similar ways. The Park Springs Romeos range in age from 80 to 95, while the Juliet participants are 75 to 92, according to organizers.
