Veterans: Untapped Talent Pool for Open Jobs

A LinkedIn report released ahead of Veterans Day will help employers better understand the state of veteran employment.


Why it matters: Employers are looking to fill millions of open jobs, and veterans have the skills and work experience.


By the numbers: The LinkedIn 2023 Veteran Opportunity Report finds that veterans:

  • Possess eight of LinkedIn’s ten most-in-demand skills.
     
  • Have nearly two times more work experience than civilians and have leadership as a top skill.
     
  • Are three times more likely to have a graduate degree than civilians, and 60.5% attained a bachelor’s degree or higher.


What they said: “We know that [veterans and military spouses] bring skills to the workforce that don't necessarily exist with other populations,” said Hiring Our Heroes’ Executive Director Elizabeth O’Brien at a LinkedIn event on the report. “In a market that is so strapped for good talent right now, we're making sure through LinkedIn that we are part of that global marketplace.”
